Pacquiao To Fight Clottey At 147 lbs.
Tuesday, January 12, 2010 by: JMWe are waiting for the official announcement of the next fight of Manny Pacquiao and Mayweather. Unfortunately, the fight will not push through rather Pacquiao will face Clottey at 147 lbs.
Manny Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach clarified that the fight between Pacquiao and Clottey on March 13 will push through and will not have a catchweight. According to Roach, “It will be at 147, but there’s no catchweight.”
Those who are not used to boxing terms will not know what catchweight is. Catchweight is a weight limit for a fight that does not fall in traditional limits for weight divisions.
The Trainer of the Year recipient stated that Pacquiao is comfortable fighting at 147 lbs. Pacquiao, who is the only seven-division world champion, is set to face former International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight champion Clottey at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Pacquiao will defend the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title which he won after beating Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto.
What is Clottey’s response about the fight? Does he also want a drug test for Manny Pacquiao like what Mayweather wants?
BoxingTalk.com asked Clottey if he wants a drug test for Manny Pacquiao, Clottey’s manager Vincent Scolpino said, “Whatever rules apply in the state are what we will abide by.” “Hopefully, everybody will be professional in the situation and we won't have anything to worry about,” he added.
“It's a great opportunity for Josh against the best fighter in the world and he's going to do what he has to do,” noted Scolpino.
He went on to say about Pacquiao: “He's one of the best fighters ever. He throws his hands and that's all you could ask for from a guy. I have a tremendous amount of respect for him.”
Who do you think will win this coming fight?
Pacquiao? or Clottey?
